Local FRES-company NuRa is active in Kwazulu-Natal, one of the least well developed provinces of South Africa. There is a significant AIDS-problem in the region. NuRa supplies solar home systems for the supply of electricity (light, radio, television) and lpg.

South Africa is a country with extreme differences in income and unemployment is high. Half of the 48 million inhabitants live in poverty. Only a quarter of those have access to electricity.
