One quarter of the world population is
deprived of electrification. Electrification of developing
countries is combating poverty. Children can make their homework
more efficiently; companies can work on for longer periods of
time. And you can connect a television set or radio to the power
supply, thus opening a window to the world. The Energy for
Development conference in December 2004 tackled the
possibilities of improving access in developing countries, but
“putting solar power systems on the docks doesn’t get you
there”.
