MISSION
FRES promotes rural electrification in developing countries on a structural basis by setting up small-scale commercial electricity companies. Not only does this ensure that people can get electricity without being connected to the electricity grid, but it also gives an economic boost to the area by creating permanent employment opportunities.
The objectives of the Foundation Rural Energy Services are:
- promoting rural electrification in developing countries, preferably by the use of solar energy;
- managing and expanding the two existing joint ventures, Yeelen Kura in Mali and NuRa in South Africa, on behalf of Nuon.
