FRES (Foundation Rural Energy Services) offre aux ménages et petites entreprises d'Afrique l'accès à l'électricité générée par l'énergie solaire, de manière sûre et abordable, sans risques pour la santé. La disponibilité de l'électricité influence positivement la vie des habitants des zones rurales et contribue à la lutte contre la pauvreté et à l'amélioration des conditions de vie.
Actuellement, FRES gère trois entreprises en Afrique. FRES Pays-Bas fournit l'expertise et les investissements nécessaires à la constitution d'entreprises locales et à leur croissance. En 2011, de nouvelles entreprises vont être constituées en Ouganda et en Guinée-Bissau.
